Preparation Guidance
The effectiveness and safety of Kambo relies on a prepared body and mind. By following these essential safety guidelines, you cultivate a clear and receptive vessel for the traditional Amazonian medicine to work most profoundly.
-
In the days before your kambo session please eat normally, and make sure your diet includes plenty of salt. Do not fast or go without eating the day before your kambo session, and try to stick to foods high in carbs and low in fats and protein
-
Do not eat or drink anything (except water) in the seven hours leading up to your session. The reason for not eating within this time-frame prior to your session is so that you don't vomit chunks and so your stomach is not actively producing digestive enzymes as these make the kambo experience more unpleasant. You may drink 1 cup of water every hour up until 2 hours prior to your session, then no water except sips to avoid dry mouth and throat. You may have 1 measured cup of coffee (no creamers or sweeteners) up until 2 hours before your session.
-
Please make sure you fill out the waiver (link at the bottom of this page) honestly and completely prior to arriving as this is very important for your safety.
-
As a reminder, please abstain from alcohol two days before and after kambo.
-
Wear comfortable clothes. Avoid rompers and one-pieces. If you have a favorite blanket or pillow, or any other items that bring you comfort, feel free to bring them.
-
If you wear contacts and would like to receive sananga, please bring a contact case and your glasses, unless you wear your glasses to your session.
Things to Avoid Prior to and After Your Session
- Saunas three days before and after
- Enemas, colonics, liver flushes, water-based detox three days before and after
- Fasting longer than 18 hours for seven days before or after
- Diet pills or sleeping pills (see waiver)
- Alcohol for two days before and after
- Amphetamines INCLUDING Adderall and Ritalin 7 days before and after
- If you have been experiencing diarrhea or vomiting in the last 48 hours, we will need to reschedule your session.
- Eating a fat and/or protein rich diet the day before your session may increase the time needed for digestion, and could require a longer fasting time (10-12 hours).
Things to Note
Mental Preparation
- If you can, take an inventory of your physical health, mental health, emotional health, and spiritual health. What things in each of these areas would you like to be different or do you find to be bothering you? How would you like these things to change? In each of these categories what feels good and is working well for you? Writing this down will provide you with a baseline to track the changes that Kambo can bring about in your life.
Rest & Integration
The 24-48 hours after your session are vital for integration. Allow yourself space for quiet reflection or journaling to process the energetic shifts. Kambo can sometimes give you a lot of energy, so take care to not to push yourself too hard and overdo it physically.
Post-Session Integration & Self-Care
Nourishment
Support your physical body with clean, whole foods. Avoid alcohol for two days. Make sure to hydrate with electrolyte drinks or mineral-rich broths if you have experienced any purging.
Body Awareness
Listen closely to your body's signals. Kambo will often help you tune in to what is nourishing and helpful for your body, as well as making some things feel slightly distasteful or downright repulsive. This is a good time to start forming new habits that support your mental and physical wellbeing!
